Review: Kiniki - Tan through bikini

I was sceptical that a "tan through" bikini wouldn't work, especially after reading some reviews on tan-though swimwear in general. I was also worried because it doesn't have any support in the bikini top and that it would be too see through. I had thought about purchasing one for some time, but I was really unsure, so I always put it off. I am very good at spending hours just looking online, researching, even putting it into the basket but then deciding not to purchase..........but......

.......I decided to take the plunge.

I found Kiniki on Ebay, so it worked out slightly cheaper this way, making the decision slightly easier too. The idea of these bikini's is the Transol fabric allows the sun to pass through. There a lots of tiny holes in the material and I have posted a picture of what they look like further down in this post. When looking at it up close, you would think that when you had it on you would be able to see through it, but you cant and I think this is because of the patterns and design on the swimwear.

Key Information
Where to buy: Kiniki Website or Kiniki Ebay
Price: I paid £24.90 for mine. However its RRP £57.80. (They often have some good deals on their website and their Ebay)

This is the bikini I bought:

You can also see this poppy bikini on Kiniki's website

It took me a while to decide which design to choose, as there are so many pretty designs to choose from. I got mine in a size 06/08, which was perfect for me, as I am usually a size 6 or 8 in clothes. You order the top and bottoms seperately, so if you are bigger on top and smaller on the bottom, or visa versa, you can get what sizes suit you best. I chose the tie side (tanga) bottoms but they do offer them in the brief style aswel.

When I received it (they were super fast in their delivery, by the way) and tried it on, I straight away knew that I didn't like the fact it wasn't supportive. It has no padded under layer to the bikini top, although I did know to expect this, because it wouldn't be able to tan through it, I was worried I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it.

I wasn't sure if I would feel too self-concious to wear it on holiday, but I took it with me anyhow. For the first few days of holiday I wore my other bikinis. Then I decided to wear my Kiniki bikini. Not being the most gracefully gifted up top, I was both worried and conscious that it wasn't enhancing what I do have. After deciding to just see it through and wait to see the results, I was pleasantly surprised.

I had no tan lines!!

Ok, so you could see where I had been wearing my bikini because the skin under it doesn't tan the same as the bare skin. But it wasn't as noticeable as having an outliune of bikini imprinted on my skin. Bearing in mind, I wasn't expecting a miracle, with no tan lines whatsoever, the contrast was definitely more blended and less harsh.

There are micro holes that enable the sun to tan through to the skin

The tan lines I hate the most, are the ones on your bottom. I always put my halter neck ties down, so I don't get those tan lines, but it's impossible to not get the pant tan lines on your bottom, unless you a) wear a thong or b) go nude. And neither these are options for me, so when I started wearing my Kiniki bikini, I got slightly addicted.

I bought mine in May this year and I have wore it on both holidays I have been on. I even wish I bought a new one for my holiday in August, as I ended up wearing this one nearly everyday. I did decide before holiday that I wouldn't be doing much tanning, as I got pretty dark from the last holiday in June but you know what its like, when the sun is there beaming down, how can you resist.

What I will say is, that it does take some getting used to. I would strongly advise putting your suncream on before you put on your bikini as it's alot easier this way. I would also recommend, making sure you keep reapplying, especially on the more sensitive areas (under your bikini top).

I have been tanning in normal bikinis for many years, so I don't think you would be able to not have any tan lines beacuse of this fact. Also these areas are usually covered and have been covered for many years, so it would be hard for the skin to go the same colour as your exposed skin. That being said, I think the results were great. Probably even better than what I was expecting.

In Summary...I think Kiniki swimwear is wonderful! I am very pleased with the way it looks, the style and most importantly the results. I think the price I paid was reasonable and probably equal to what I would pay for a regular bikini. They do have a large range of styles and designs, from swimsuits to dresses, wraps to swim shorts for men.

Have you tried a tan through bikini? What are you thoughts on them? If you have any other questions, feel free to post them below and I'll get back to you.

Review: Origins A Perfect World For Eyes

I was on the look out for a nice hydrating eye cream after seeing that my under eyes were getting dry and in need of some good TLC. I used to apply moisturiser all over my face and not think of needing an eye cream. I was debating between Dermalogicas total eye care and this Origins a perfect world for eyes.

In comparison, Dermalogicas costs £37 for 15ml and the Origins one costs £28 for 15ml. But I actually purchased mine from the duty free in the airport, so i got it a little cheaper.

Where you can buy it: Large Boots stores, John Lewis, online and Heathrow Terminals 1 & 3
Price: £28
Size: 15ml
Directions of use: Gently pat on under eyes after cleansing AM and PM.

I really like the texture, smell and how effective this product is. My main concern is keeping the area hydrated and it certainly does the trick. If you are looking for an eye cream that combats fine lines, this is also great for keeping them at bay.

Its silky texture, makes it feel luxurious and enables it to glide on very smoothly. The divine smell makes you feel like you want to eat it (but I wouldn't recommend it). It's a perfect base for make-up as it absorbs super quick and leaves the skin feeling very smooth and refreshed.

The downsides to this product are the price and the fact you can't tell how much you have left in the container, probably until its too late and you've then ran out. Although I do like this product, I am not sure I will be making a re-purchase, purely based on the price. I think I may try something else out when this has finished.

Review: Benefit Ooh La Lift

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I bought Benefit's Ooh La Lift back in April this year and I think its a good product for brightening the under eye area. It has light reflecting pigments in it, which help make your under eyes appear brighter and lighter.

Lets get the stats out the way:

Where can you buy it: Benefit Cosmetics online and in-store
Price: £16.50
Size: 6ml
Directions of use: Apply 3 dots under each eye and pat with fingertip.

I just want to start off by saying it does not conceal dark circles, you still need to apply concealer if you would regularly do this anyway.
Some people use this under their concealer, I did try this but couldn't see that it lighten the area, so I choose to apply it on top of my concealer and then I just powder my whole face as normal.

I wouldn't say that this product is a necessity in my make-up bag, but for me it definitely has it perks.
In these swatches you can see the effects Ooh la lift has on the skin in natural lighting and also with the flash of the camera. The top swatch is directly on to the skin without rubbing it in and the lower swatch is it a little rubbed in. It appears shimmery and it is a little but its not that noticeable once paired with make-up.
I don't think that this product creates a 'lift' in the skin but it does highlight to fade the look of dark circles.

Benefits: (see what I done there ;-) )
  • Easy to apply
  • I think it should be fine for any skin tone, as its not coloured
  • A little goes a long way
  • You can pop it in the fridge; for that instant wake me up effect when you apply it in the morning, especially great for puffiness
  • Great for highlighting

Hello Kitty nail polish launching at Superdrug this October

Yes! You read it right, Hello kitty nail varnish is going to be available in Superdrug this October.
They are super cute and the colours look great too. They are set to be sold for £4.99 each. I think the bottles look amazing and are must for any nail polish collection. Roll on October.

Sephora stores already have a Hello Kitty range of nail polishes in different colours, more pastel shades and also glitters, so hopefully this range in superdrug will get extended.

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer Review (including MAC moisturecover, Bobbi Brown creamy kit and Benefit erase paste)

OK so this is a little long winded, as I just want to give a quick overview of my 'finding the perfect concealer' journey. But if you want to just read about Benefit's boi-ing concealer then just scroll down past all this, to where the photo of the Benefit boi-ing is :)

I was looking for a concealer and before now I had never really noticed any dark circles under my eyes. Well, maybe I had, but I had never concealed them. When I heard you shouldn't be using your foundation to cover your dark circles,(as it's not designed for the delicate skin under your eyes), I started my quest to find a great concealer. Now, I am very picky with my foundations, so I knew this would take me a while to get the right one. I'm fed up of purchasing products and getting home to realise I don't like them.

A lot of my friends swear by MAC, so I thought I'd try there first, the consultant thought the best one for my skin was the moisturecover concealer in NC25. It's £14.50 for 5ml. My skin is prone to get dry under my eyes, so I need a moisture based concealer, so this one seemed to fit. After having it applied in store, I went home and I didn't really like the finish. I didn't like how it sat on top of my skin and you could really tell I was wearing concealer. So I continued my quest.

I then tried the Bobbi Brown's creamy kit concealer, I did like this but I didn't feel I needed the powder on top and you didn't get much of each for the price (£24 for 5.9g). So this was my favourite so far, and usually I would go ahead and buy it but I decided not to be impulsive, as I wasn't 100% happy with it. I did really like the finish and coverage and the colour looked nice too but I didn't rush into this purchase just yet.

My friend swears by benefit's erase paste, so I went along to Benefit and tried the same colour as her, shade medium, as we have similar complexions. It didn't look right on me at all, it looked really pink. I couldn't work out why it looked so different on my skin than it did to my friends, then we worked it out, that maybe it's more down to the darkness of the circles than necessary the complexion colour.

I then tried Benefit's boi-ing concealer, I had also read and watched fairly good reviews on it, so I thought I'd give it a try. I loved it! It allows for buildable coverage and it's so easy to apply with your finger or a concealer brush. I'm number 03 and it's 3g for £16.50. It's great for concealing dark circles and it doesn't looks like a completely different colour to my foundation.
Now I have a tan, I am still using the concealer but applying my foundation over the top a little to blend it in more, instead of buying a darker colour.
I realised that finding the right concealer isn't so much about finding one to match your skin colour (although of course, this is important), but more about finding one that is right for how dark your circles are and how much you want to cover them. That's why the erase paste didn't work for me because my circles aren't too dark and instead of neutralising the darkness it stands out pink on my skin in all three shades they have. The great thing about boi-ing is that you only need a little and it goes a long way. It isn't the cheapest concealer, however I think it is worth it for me.
